Quick tutorial: A fellow reader asked me how to cook a perfectly hard boiled egg.
Here are two methods I like to use. I suggest you try both of them and see which one you feel more comfortable with.
Method 1: Traditional
Fill a small pot with cold water and gently place your eggs inside. Place pot over medium-high heat uncovered. Turn off, and remove from heat as soon as the water reaches a rapid boil. Cover the pot and let the eggs sit in the hot water for 8-10 minutes. Remove the eggs and slide them into ice water to cool. The peel should come off smoothly!
Method 2: Fast
Start with cold water and place your eggs inside. Place the pot over medium-high heat COVERED. Let it boil for 4 minutes. Turn off, remove from heat and let stand in the hot water for 2 minutes. Immerse them in cold water and peel immediately.
The result of both of these methods should be a powdery, fully-cooked yolk with no sign of a grey ring surrounding it.
Hope this answers your question!
